they ask all sorts of questions. at regionals we had a ton on koppen, and a bit on fossils, but this time we had our quiz on the computer, odd, and were actually able to use the internet to search the internet, even odder, and the quiz part was all multiple choice, while there was also another part that was a "game" where you had to change different variables (volcanic eruption, % c02 increase, albedo etc.) to make your graph match a given graph. which was interesting but i dont think we could have prepared for at all....
anyway, thanks everyone for the help! states were today, and the my not-particularly-great-but-not-terrible results;
meteorology- 4
compute this-5
reach for the stars-6
scrambler-7
and the whole team got 2nd, so we won't be going to nationals. so good luck to everyone who does go to nationals! may you cream the team that beat us by 20 pts and has for as long as anyone can remember. (sorry, no offence to that team, they're just good, but it does get kinda tiring getting beat by the one same team over and over and over and over and over......) :D

Fossils? Why would you need to know that for Meteorology? I can only think of the paleoclimates, but other than that I don't know.

Also, what state are you in, and what is the team that has won for so long?

That must have been a strange test. Also - this is sort of off topic - don't the top two teams in state go to nationals or does it depend on the state.
