It may be fun at the competition but it wont be fun when teams that do 2-3 events only medal and you dont (hypothetically)

Yes, but you can't study to be physically fit. If you want to be physically fit, do a sport or something.

The part that I object to is that it was mainly created in the first place to make SciO seem less nerdy... which kind of backfires when you see that their idea of physical activity is hula-hooping and 5m sprints.

i don't get it. why is everyone hating on this event? i play basketball, volleyball, track and field, and a whole lot of other sports that i love, and i don't know what id do without them to fill in some time and keep me active. i think pentathlon is super cool, if only because it's a way out of the constant, monotonous studying that all of the other events include. just because you don't feel that you're very good, or that other people aren't very good, or that you don't want to have anything to do with anything physical doesn't mean that everyone else in science olympiad should follow the "nerd" stereotype. Sports don't even really enter into the event all that much. the moderators know that most science olympiad kids aren't going to be very big on sports, so they have random physical challenges that no one does on a regular basis. i don't see a lot of sportiness involved....you don't really have to run a lot, you have to keep your balance, and occasionally you have to have good aim. the only "sport" that really reminds me of is golf.

We don't like this event because Science Olympiad is about science, not physical activities. It's not about who can hula hoop the longest or who can run the fastest. It's about who has the most knowledge about science topics.

sadistic_cottoncandy, I completey agree that people don't have to follow the "nerd" stereotype (i for one, am on varsity sports and also am in several other clubs in my school). However, people join (or at least the serious ones) to compete based on their SCIENTIFIC knowledge, not to be "well-rounded anti-nerds".

Think about it, when you are playing basketball, do you want to have to answer a science question before your basket counts? I don't think so, because that isn't the point of the activity. The same logic applies with SCIENCE olympiad.

I think this event is just as fun as Science Word.

I think this is a good trial event, but shouldn't count towards overall score.

This is a perfect example of why Pentathlon shouldn't be an event.
