None of the top 5 teams in WIDI got over 350 points overall. I know this may be possible, but it seems unlikely that all the top teams would do so poorly in it. An 18th was quite disappointing for us. In addition, my partner told me that the materials were stacked on top of another before they were given and some pieces fell off, so not everyone got all the pieces...
My teammate told me it was ran very poorly, but it could have been a spreadsheet error (there were multiple of them in the div C spreadsheet.) we got 20-something, so it was our worst event by a LONGSHOT.

But you would think if there was one spreadsheet error in C already, they would have gotten the other one...

My teammate also mentioned that they started handing out the building materials after they had started the timers.

If the event was run the same way for all the teams and the times were started before the material was handed out for all teams. Then I don't see why that is bad. Everyone had the same time disadvantage and thus were on a equal playing field. If you are arguing that some teams got 30 seconds less to work because they got the material last, then how else would you run it. Would you time each team? Would you place the material for each team on the desk? (this leading to teams seeing their material before starting, making teams that walk in first have a advantage)
Also, their was one scoring error in C division (bungee) and this is one of the only scoring errors that I've seen in a long time (scrambler was simply not added to the online spreadsheet). I have seen appeals change teams places and have also seen them announce the wrong team for medals but this sort of scoring mishap rarely ever happens.
Please don't complain and blame hard working event supervisors, they work hard to provide a fair and just competition.

I know, my teammate told me it was run poorly and I asked him why, and that's just what he told me. I don't do Widi, so I wasn't sure how bad of an issue that was.

Also congrats to Shady Side for placing 14th and Springhouse for placing 17th (and winning the first newcomer award!) A solid showing from PA in both divisions!

Congrats to all the PA teams at Nats! I like to think we did PA proud (especially with that one "Pennsyl..-vania" cheer :D ) It's been a wonderful 6 years for me as a participant in PA scioly, and I'll be sad that I won't be able to volunteer in state next year. It was great to see both C div teams make top 10 this year, and I hope that trend continues!

and now to change my status to grad!

I'm very excited to announce that the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) will host its first-ever Division C invitational tournament on Saturday, January 24, 2015. Our website is now live at scioly.mit.edu. Registration will open in September, and we hope that our field of competitors will include at least a few teams from Pennsylvania and New Jersey! Boston is about a 5 hour drive from the Philadelphia area.

Please let your coaches know about our new invitational! We're striving to cut no corners in making this tournament the best it can possibly be. Feel free to email scioly [at] mit [dot] edu with any questions, and I hope to see you all in January. :)
