It goes along the same lines that people definitely shouldn't be upset about it, and difficult decisions must be made. That said, I think it sounds like lovescience wants to just make the event run better, which is a good goal (as long as it's more that than annoyance at supervisors).

Yes - Tower had an issue with some scoring snafu that kept them from going to States when they were told they were going. That is a tough one to have happen but it does happen. People make mistakes. They are human.

And yes - that is the goal 100%. I know it goes away next year, but if what happened at States can help make a change for Nationals for the better, that is a very good thing. (again - I have no idea what the venue is like but apparently it is worse than the French Field House at OSU which has to mean it is pretty far from ideal.)

I didn't realize Nordonia was considered a powerhouse team.

Good luck to Solon and Centerville HS and Middle Schools. Kick b_tt in Orlando and make Ohio proud. Be back in October.

Correct, we did have to convert Towers C to a trial event in 2011. For the life of me I can't recall the details though.

Hehe, that's fine. I did some past forum reading to figure it out, that's how I knew :P. Funny enough, it was from your post! I believe you said along the lines of the person running the event left and so a whole slot couldn't run...but yeah, it happens. Good luck to Solon/Centerville as said, and also I hope, lovescience, that plan works out.

Does anyone know how close the top scores for Mission were at Ohio State on Saturday, did it come down to the size of the box with everything else being equal? That would mean perfect sorting devices and scoring all transfers.

The top scores were very close, but nobody had perfect sorting and all transfers.

On the subject of having events dropped/being moved to trial, the SoCal state tournament this year had Can't Judge a Powder made a trial event, and Metric Mastery didn't count, if I remember correctly.
TSA's pretty cool... i guess

We've posted an official statement on the State website about Helicopters: http://www.ced.osu.edu/scioly/

In order to reflect the principles and spirit of the Science Olympiad program, the Helicopters event was made a trial event at the Ohio Science Olympiad State Tournament. After consultation with the arbitrators and the event supervisors, it was decided that the integrity of the helicopter event was compromised. As a State office it is our responsibility to ensure the overall integrity and fairness of the program. Our decisions are NEVER based on any one school or individual team. The decision to make Helicopters a Trial event was based on several inconsistencies, coupled with other issues related to the event space. It is the State office position that the spirit of the competition was impacted. Students ranking in the top 6 places were still awarded medals but their scores were not counted toward the final team results. Additionally, it should be noted that had the scores been counted the final top 6 team results would have remained the same (although this did not factor into the decision).

Sincerely,
Angela D. Davis, State Director

Try again. Dropbox had a security issue earlier this week and broke all the shared links. It's fixed now.

I was just wondering, since helicopters was in a ridiculous place, were there any successful runs? What was the best time?
