Every state is run differently. Some have a single director, some have whole committees, some split B and C into different organizations, etc. etc. State directors have a ton of autonomy over what goes on in their states, so there isn't a one-size fits all answer. Keep in mind that just because you haven't heard a response yet doesn't mean you won't - there is still a lot of SO activity going on as everyone prepares for Nationals. Also please keep in mind that you likely don't have the complete picture or perspective as to how and why things are done the way they are. Resources in terms of time, people and funding is always a big issue.

@ magicalforest: the irony indeed...oh the irony indeed. NJ places first in the event that was the subject of much....contempt.

Anyways, congrats to our NJ teams for a great showing, esp. West Windsor with a top ten finish

Hey New Jersey people, or people who live near NJ- Are you guys interested in some summer research?

There is a lab course on biochemistry hosted by Rutgers this summer, where you will be purifying a special protein of a type of jellyfish. During the research, you will spend a day catching jellyfish, and then use different techniques to extract the GCF protein, which glows in the dark. According to the website, you will use techniques such as "column chromatography of several types, gel electrophoresis, absorption spectrophotometry, and high pressure liquid chromatography."

The website with more information is here: http://dbm.rutgers.edu/11115433SpecialT ... ochem.html

To apply, you just need to answer three essay questions near the bottom of the page, and then you're basically in!

Hurry and register if interested, because the deadline is sometime soon (I don't know the specific date, I think next week). When you do get in, could you please register for the afternoon session? A lot of people registered for the morning session, but the afternoon session might be cancelled because no one wants to do it in the afternoon... (and I can only do it in the afternoon :D)

Please also tell your friends if they might be interested. Thanks!

(This is also a great way to get a head start on next year's Cell Bio and Protein Modeling)

I know there's the SSSS that scioly.org is doing for the summer, but anyone interested in doing scioly prep together for NJ specifically? We could probably meet up in some public library when we have free time and work together at scheming how to beat out South. :P
