First, the DNA is denatured and annealed/primed, exposing the unknown sequence. Then, ddNTPs and dNTPs are mixed with the exposed sequence, and after they react, the products are separated by gel electrophoresis to reveal the sequence.

VNTR (variable number tandem repeat) is where a nucleotide sequence repeats a varying number of times, depending on the individual. When several of these groups are analyzed independently, it provides a unique DNA fingerprint per individual (based on the number of repetitions). Therefore, it can be used in forensic science and other applications, as well as tracing heredity because it is an inherited trait.
2015 events: WIDI, Protein Modeling, Geomapping, Chem Lab

2014 events: WIDI, Geomapping, Materials Science, Food Science
2013 events: WIDI, Mousetrap Vehicle, Heredity, Food Science, Metric Mastery

Best ever place: Nationals, 3rd in WIDI
