they are kinda like tinker toys.(and actually, its googoplex. that might explain the no google results)

It's Googolplex, actually. They do have some things in common with tinker toys, but they're not all that similar.

googleplex pieces are a little less thin than tinkertoy pieces

when ever I practiced with my partners my coach did put out extra pieces. but I never actually participated in the event at a competition

Probably, it would be too easy if they left only the pieces you needed.

I agree with EASTstroudsburg13 in its entirity!! It would be kinda easier without the extra pieces!!! and render the instructions useless!!

Even if you only have the pieces necessary to build the model- which, I would like to point out, is the case on most events- the instructions are still far from useless... the point of the event isn't to figure out which of the pieces you need, it's to put them together the way they're supposed to go. Sure, it's easier without extra pieces in the building kit, but with a thorough enough Writer it's irrelevant.

its possible to rehearse a certain design, and just not pay attention to the instructions though isn't it?
