You mean the National trial events? We didnt get to nats last year or the year before. 3rd =/. And if you mean the normal events, I got fossils and dynamic, but I want something....off the beaten path, if you will.
2009 events:
Fossils: 1st @ reg. 3rd @ states (stupid dinosaurs...) 5th @ nats.
Dynamic: 1st @ reg. 19thish @ states, 18th @ nats
Herpetology (NOT the study of herpes): NA
Enviro Chem: 39th @ states =(
Cell Bio: 9th @ reg. 18th @ nats
Remote: 6th @ states 3rd @ Nats
Ecology: 5th @ Nats
Fossils: 1st @ reg. 3rd @ states (stupid dinosaurs...) 5th @ nats.
Dynamic: 1st @ reg. 19thish @ states, 18th @ nats
Herpetology (NOT the study of herpes): NA
Enviro Chem: 39th @ states =(
Cell Bio: 9th @ reg. 18th @ nats
Remote: 6th @ states 3rd @ Nats
Ecology: 5th @ Nats

o, ok, i think i understand now, does NY do state events? TX does, and they're usually ok, but sometimes i would like something a little different, because they are usually former nat events

Theeey're oouuuut. http://newyorkscioly.org/SOPages/cstate2009.htmlgneissisnice wrote:Sumo-bots is a very fun event, but unfortunately, schools without a lot of money rarely win. I say rarely because last year we didnt spend a whole lot on it, were completely surprised when it made the finals, and then flat-out shocked when we won first.
So we have Sumo Bots and a pre-build physics/earth sci lab event. Kind of like Awesome Aquifer, if you remember it.

Re: What State and Region are you guys in?
SumoBots can be an issue without money I guess...definitely moreso than EV or Robot Ramble.
But I just don't have the expertise and time to do it, and nobody else on our team really does either.
I'm already trying to figure out what I'll be juggling...definitely Egg-O-Naut, EV, Elevated Bridge, Trajectory, plus maybe another one...

Re: What State and Region are you guys in?
I'll probably cut myself some slack; I've got only Sumo Bots and EV as definites for me. If I just focus on those, I have a much better chance of doing really well. I kind of want to finish my last year with some extra medals. I have either Trajectory or JYC (who knows? NY probably won't have it) as a maybe, but I don't plan on playing major roles in those.
Sumo Bots is very easy (and cheap) to get into compared to Ramble, but much harder (and expensive) to win at. It's very picky about design and parts choices, and can't be improvised and slowly added to like Ramble can be. My 2007 bot looked like this, just in case anybody has seen it before:

Bah. No trial events for me then, both building . And yes, I consider that building, because I am so technologically impaired that I doubt I can build something that even remotely resembles a solar powered...thing.

Yeah...I wish I only had a couple events...that's how it was 2 years ago. Wright Stuff and Circuit Lab. Took 2nd in Circuit Lab with about 1 hour of preparation, so all I had to focus on was WS.
Last year I did Circuit Lab, WS, EV, and Boomi. I had a plane that broke a few days before competition, an EV that started acting up about a week before and took me a week to troubleshoot (unti 6 AM the morning of), and Boomilevers that didn't do what I wanted them to. Still managed to pull off medals in all but one though...and that was due to a problem in Boomi that I had never had happen on the other 3 of that design.
So 4 building events this year...phew. I better get off this computer and start working now.

Thats why I like study events. While a building event can go wrong at the very last minute, theres an extremely low chance that the day before the competition, youre going to forget everything you ever learned about your event.

especially if you go to my school, where you're still cramming and learning everything the day before...or on the bus to regionals...
