I'm looking forward to maybe coaching JTL again next year, but my actual high school team...I don't want to think about it. :| Although if some dedicated seniors who hadn't turned out for the team before show up we might have a chance at states. Might have. (No offense to next year's 9th graders ;) )

yeah...
Omg... I'll be a 9th grader next season, and my school's C team isn't as serious on my B team. So next season is like my last year of serious SO....

O well, I'm not gonna mope! I'm gonna make this one my best SO season yet!

At least your C team makes states, ours has never done it. Hopefully we do during my tenure.

our High School has 2 C teams
the great win states every year and place top 10 or higher at nats A team
and the sometimes doesn't even get to states B team which will never go to nats

We have one, and it sounds like your B team. Hopefully next year we'll have a chance.

Our C team generally does better than the B team. I don't know why.

Opposite occurs here. I think it's because there's so many more stuff that have more success than SO and a lot of people don't want to (or can't) put in the time required to succeed. But with JTL doing well, I'm hoping that carries over to the high school and we can reach states.

It could also be that there was a lack of communication between the people and that, on occasions, barely anyone showed up when they were supposed to (due to forgetfulness, laziness, other activities, etc.).

Ultimately commitment is the difference between us and JTL. I think we can agree on that, because if they had commitment they would have shown up more often. And the fact that in meetings we do nothing because there's no resources nor any kind of guidance. I'm hoping this changes soon.

I think that it's sort of the case at our high school. People just have other commitments, including school, and they just care about them more. And that's fine because SO is an extra-curricular. It's really amazing how much time commitment for the entire team can affect whether you trophy at nationals or can't even make states.
Strath Haven MS:
2008: Regionals-3, States-5
2009: Regionals-2, States-4
2010: Regionals-1, States-2, Nationals-19 :)
2011 (Co-captain): Regionals-1, States-1, Nationals-11 :D

Nationals: Aquifers-37, Compute This-13, Dynamic Planet-25, Ecology-6, Experimental Design-7, Junkyard-33

Moving to C...

True. So, so true. It's a bit disappointing that some try extremely hard, and those who don't end up dragging their team down.
