yes, it is pretty competitive with 2 extremely good teams capable of getting top 10 at nationals. Since my team, Galvin, was only 4 points behind the second place team I think we can be considered competitive. Now if only we could get some more teams...

good job coolidge. Division C was a close meet as well. Newton North won by about 10 points over lexington. Reading broke into the elites in division C placing 6th, and only 20 pts away from 4th. Had one event not bombed we may have been able to place 4th overall.

Good work all around in MA

edit:

personally, over my 7 years of science olympiad, i think id have to say i prefer the atmosphere at the division C olympiad over division b. There are just soo many more teams and so many competitive teams. It feels a lot like the national tournament.

I agree.. i think division B needs more teams!
I was a very close tie between Galvin and Curtis yesterday.
How many teams are in division C?

That's really small! In my region alone we have 54 division B teams and 23 division C teams.

Yeah, I'm not really sure why MA has such difficulty getting teams. And some of the teams it has hardly even count. I know that in Road Scholar at least, at least 3 of the 11 teams that actually showed up for the event didn't even try... they more or less sat and talked and didn't even touch the maps. It was really kind of disappointing.

Congrats to Galvin though. Is it true that this was only your second year with a team? Watching the scores come in, we could see the fight between Galvin and Curtis for second place unfold and there was a lot of surprise at how well Galvin was doing for a (new?) team.

Galvin is new. Yeah, one year, I bet Galvin will make it to Nationals.

thanks eak227 and sciolykid. This was only Galvin's second year doing SO. I have high hopes for the team in the following years. Were you at the award ceremony, eak227? My heart was pounding so hard after the first 5 awards. I knew we had no shot at first but i thought we might have a chance at 3rd place. In the first 5 events they read off, we got 2 golds and 3 silvers! In my head I was saying "wow maybe we have a chance!!" But then after that, Coolidge started getting lots of golds. I just IMed my coach and he said we were only 50 points behind Coolidge and confirmed that we were only 4 points behind Curtis. We bombed 3 events that we were supposed to do really well in. It was a really fun day even though I couldn't talk. Good luck to Coolidge at nationals!!
