Re: Science Olympiad Classes
Well at my school i wish Sci Oly was not a class. As an extracirrcular activity you will get people to join that are serious about doing Science Olympiad. In my class i will tell you that half of the class would rather play pigeon games on the internet that study for events. Sad thing is that this inculdes the team captin. that leaves half of the class that has to "pick up the slack" and take over for the half that would rather play pigeon internet games instead of studing which really pigeon me off cause i want to make it to State this year and that dream is getting dimmer and dimmer each class. The other bad thing with Sci Oly as a class is when you miss school for a field trip and miss the class. For example i will be out of school on Tuesday and Thursday of this week which is when our Sci Oly class is this week. Complicated sceduel cause next week class is on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. so i miss two days of studing for Sci Oly. My Sci Oly class is also put together with Academic Decathalon so we lose a lot of our time to that. It also may help us if our coach was a science teacher and not a Language Arts teacher. sucks cause i have this teacher every single day along with my spanish teacher for prep which is just like study hall for just 35 minutes a day

Almost every coach I know gets paid. For most of us, it works out to about $1 or $2 an hour.Glacierguy1 wrote:That should be illegal, unless by paid, they mean given bonuses based on how the team does at science Olympiad.

Re: Science Olympiad Classes
Why are we all coming up with theories for only FM? Surely there have to be other schools like them?
And why are coaches paid? No coach I know gets paid.

Re: Science Olympiad Classes
I don't know any coaches that get paid. I thought this was supposed to be for fun.

On Long Island, almost all club advisers get paid. Just not very much.

That's a good point. I don't think my coach is getting paid for scioly, but how do I know? I think i'll ask him.Flavorflav wrote:But would you know? Why would you?EASTstroudsburg13 wrote:Why are we all coming up with theories for only FM? Surely there have to be other schools like them?

Re: Science Olympiad Classes
I'm pretty sure that at my school, any teacher that runs and extra curricular activity gets paid a little extra. That means, that yes, the Science Olympiad coaches at my school are paid a little bit, but I'm not sure how much (obviously).
