Rake/pitch never made any sense to me. Can you please link a source with info on it?

Anyway, for the question:

What is the difference between aquifers and aquitards?

An aquifer is a body of water underground that can be tapped for a well or such, can be either confined or unconfined. An aquitard is a zone of rock that restricts the flow of groundwater from one aquifer to another.

When small local strike-slip faults form at the same time with other faults, causing a "tear" rather than a big displaced block

It can be human caused, such as mining, or it can be caused by earthquakes, faults, or other natural events. Unlike other geologic processes, it is usually quick, instead of happening over millions/billions of years.
