Just a small edit. I'm not sure if you noticed, but for the first question, I originally asked how much energy was lost in the transition, not how much was retained :D I'll change the question, but its just something to keep in mind. :D

2 pyruvate (C3H4O3) molecules and two water (H2O) molecules
How many calories does each gram of proteins, fats, and carbohydrates contribute?

Proteins and carbohydrates each contribute 4 calories per gram, fats contribute 9 calories per gram
