Covalent bond have low polarity, and ionic bonds have high polarity

Also, ionic bonds are created by electron sharing and covalent bonds are created by attractions between the electrons.

Aren't those basically the same thing?

Pretty sure that in ionic bonding the electrons are transferred, while in covalent bonds they are shared.

EDIT
http://chemwiki.ucdavis.edu/Theoretical_Chemistry/Chemical_Bonding/Covalent_Bonds_vs_Ionic_Bonds

"Covalent bonds consist of pairs of electrons shared by two atoms"

"If two atoms differ considerably in their electronegativity - as sodium and chloride do - then one of the atoms will lose its electron to the other atom. This results in a positively charged ion (cation) and negatively charged ion (anion). The bond between these two ions is called an ionic bond."

The quotes are what I learned.

Ionic bonds=electron donation (in simpler terms, the electron just "leaves" its original atom)
Covalent bonds=electron sharing (the atoms merge electron clouds so there are moments when the electron is part of both atoms at once)

Hydrophobic - generally nonpolar substance; will not dissolve in water (for example, oil or permanent markers)
Hydrophilic - generally polar and will dissolve in water (for example, alcohol or washable markers)

Soap is a funny thing in that it's both; one side of it is attracted to water molecules and the other side is not (and will instead stick to oils and such)
