With an egg, they were getting about 14-18 seconds, depending on a certain fin shape. (The data may be a bit off, because it was quite windy when I tested) I found that the most efficient shape was an Isosceles trapezoid, but that only works with the thicker material.
Problems are better pursued with General Electric GE90-115 engines.

Would permanent marker marks alter the integrity of a 2-liter bottle?

Considering that you're required to label all parts of your rocket with your team number, no, it does not. This rule is just for safety reason, meaning they don't want your pressure vessel to explode.

What do you all think the chance is that Bottle Rocket remains for another year? I know it'll be going into it's third year, which breaks the general guidelines of two-year rotations that chalker has mentioned, but I've heard that the Executive Committee heavily favors it, so I'm not sure what to think.

Does anyone have any thoughts on what the bottle rockets challenge for next year might be? Parachutes maybe?

I really hope so. Three years of the same building event isn't something we ever see. Hopefully there will be something big to spice it up.

There actually is a trial event that matches your description!

I always thought this would be an amazing event, but I don't think it's very far in the trial event process :(
