In addition, I've seen a test from a highly competitive invitational in which the students actually had to identify a species that was a biological control/vector of an invasive.
Is this allowed? It has the potential to make tests a lot harder...

Yeah why not? It makes sense. Was it Nitidulidae? That's pretty common.

Was this posted in the wrong place? Like others in the Cashew family Peppertree its sap is poisonous. Don't eat raw cashews. Srsly. Chinese tallow's sap is poisonous to cattle and grazing animals.

I was going through the rules and its states that classification is limited to the level indicated by the National List (so binomial nomenclature), however, I have seen tests in which family or order is asked for. Am I misinterpreting the rules?

Well people have asked it on tests before, so you should know it.
