Classically speaking...
1. Scott Joplin
2. Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky
3. Georges Bizet
4. Ludwig van Beethoven
5. Gioacchino Rossini
I wouldn't exactly classify Joplin as classical...
Pedantically, of those, only Beethoven could be considered classical (although I'd say he's a Romantic composer). The rest are later than the Classical period (especially Joplin).

Beethoven was the transition between Classical and Romantic. Also, I'd argue that Rossini was more classical than romantic, though his later works could be argued for either way.
if any of y'all visit StL be sure to visit the Joplin house

Beethoven was the transition between Classical and Romantic.
But you usually don't think of him as Classical :P
Also, I'd argue that Rossini was more classical than romantic, though his later works could be argued for either way.
True, that's pretty arguable

Side note: No one's mentioned PDQ Bach yet?

Today in U.S. History the documentary we were watching had Scott Joplin's Pineapple Rag in it...and no one noticed... :(

EDIT: And it's even more sad, because Scott Joplin was from St. Louis...
