Doesn't matter, I'd say around 99% of Yugioh cards are irrelevant in any given format, even in Yugioh's most diverse times such as in late 2014.DragonTownEpic wrote:'Kay, I really have no preference so I'll attack:

EDIT: Last year, in April, exactly 8525 Yugioh cards existed, with 4-5 sets being released since (an additional ~250 cards). At any given moment, a maximum of 7 decks are relevant, each consisting of at most 25 distinct cards in the main deck, 9 in the extra, and 7 in the side deck. 7(25+9+7)=287, and 287/8775= around 0.03, so only 3% of cards are relevant during a diverse meta.

What's the use in having ~97% of your cards obsolete?jimmy-bond wrote:Doesn't matter, I'd say around 99% of Yugioh cards are irrelevant in any given format, even in Yugioh's most diverse times such as in late 2014.DragonTownEpic wrote:'Kay, I really have no preference so I'll attack:

So is this just like a debate on whether something is good or not?

1) To raise the price of packs because you don't want a single card per pack at $.50 a pack, so instead of spending all that money on holographic effects, you can put 1 good card and 8 useless cards in a $5 pack.DragonTownEpic wrote:What's the use in having ~97% of your cards obsolete?
2) Situational meta. Some cards such as spell-shattering arrow, fairy wind, and Grinder Golem were once pretty bad cards but changing meta made them see play. It's good to have a bunch of options.

Meh, means that the common folk, however, cannot play the game competitively due to the cost of purchasing so many packs; the best decks often require specific cards that can take hundreds of packs to pull.

Ever heard of Salamangreats, Monarchs, or ABCs? They all cost $50 for a somewhat competitively viable build, which is very affordableJoeyC wrote:Meh, means that the common folk, however, cannot play the game competitively due to the cost of purchasing so many packs; the best decks often require specific cards that can take hundreds of packs to pull.
Also how about purchasing singles? That's much more cost-efficient than buying stacks of packs.

I know around 8 other casual players in my school and I have around 25 friends who I'd see if I were to attend the tournament I typically go to.JoeyC wrote:Purchasing singles? Still, way too much. Plus, how many YuGiOh players do you know that you can play against casually irl?
