Flight Times and/or Videos

Post by bernard »

What raw times have you seen at tournaments? Including ceiling heights, bonuses attempted, and other details about planes would be helpful. And videos are always fun to watch!

Region 8 Michigan tournament won with a 2:30+ time, no bonuses at that level. Ceiling looked to be about 25 ft or so and fairly clear of obstacles until you hit the rafters.

Our team flies right at 3:00 from 22' in practice. At the San Diego regionals, with slightly turbulent air, they won with a time of 2:40 from 20'.

At the Highline Regional in Washington, the winning plane had a raw time of just around 1:30. It looked like a Freedom Flight kit and it flew in a huge circle almost the size of the whole gym (which I think is honestly pretty big for a gym). It ended up hitting walls and basketball hoops on a couple of its flights. Not sure how tall the ceiling was.

South Central KS regional. Best time was around 1:40 (freedom flight kit plane). that was before the 10% bonus for wings. We got second at 1:10 (Laser Cut plane kit) before 10% bonus. Ceiling was 25-30 feet. Small gym size with basketball goal obstacles. We are upgrading to a freedom flight for state, since we know we can't compete against them at State.
Results R/S
C 2014 = Scrambler - 1/1
C 2015 = Scrambler 2/3, Wright Stuff, 2/5, Bungy Drop, 4/-
C 2016 = Electric V. 1/2 , Wright 2/7
C 2017 = Electric V 1/1 , Helicop 1/1, Hover 2/-
C 2018 = Mouse V 1/1, Helicop 2/4

Northwest Region in Ohio was won by a 1:51 time with a wing bonus. It was a modified freedom flight kit. Next best time was around 1:10. Flights were in a gym that was slightly small, but had a good 25 ft. ceiling. Any other results?

We got 3rd place in the Ottawa/Kent regional in Michigan with a time of 1:55 not including the wing bonus. I don't know what the higher times were. We just built it with our heads, no kit.

The 1:51 was also before the wing bonus, and what was the space like that it was flown in?

Indiana States was won using the one penny bonus on a Freedom Flight Design just over two minutes by Munster HS. The actual longest longest flight was made by Valparaiso HS with a 3:00 flight. The model featured a rolled tube fuselage but not to save weight but to remain torsionally stable throughout the flight. It is a variation of the MacGuffin that won nationals in 2008.
