Tier 1 - the main competitors for 1st
Solon (not much to say here)
Daniel Wright (They will probably rebound from 5th; also I'm biased toward them because I saw them firsthand at boyceville and how well they completely demolished the other teams and they beat me at crave :( )
Beckendorff (1st and 2nd last two years, don't see that changing much)
Winston Churchill (don't know them very well but they seem like a potentially very big threat)
Tier 2 - some more teams that are definitely still competitive, but are slightly below than the aforementioned. Most likely will get top 10s
Meads Mill
Muscatel
Piedmont
Longfellow
Magsig
Tier 3 - some wildcards that could definitely break their way in
Springhouse
Marie Murphy
Ladue
Auburn
Dodgen
FYI, Dodgen was only 4 points lower than FSA at state, and the teams were respectively 19th and 20th last year. You would need to group the two together to be accurate. Ladue may or may not be in the wrong tier, too.
Also I'd say Marie Murphy should also be higher, since they were only 7 poitns behind Daniel Wright at state.

And you forgot your own team, who I would also place in your Tier 3.
Hm. Im a bit curious as to why you put Marie Murphy in Tier 3? They've consistently placed very well at Nats (except for two years ago as they didn't make it).

For this year, I decided to adapt the formula I use as a predictor for PA states to the national tournament. It takes into account state competition size and score, number of total teams in the state, performance of past teams from that state, and placings in previous national tournaments, as well as bonuses for being close to the tournament site and major invitational wins. It's a bit fudgy, especially for teams where I could not find scores, but we'll see how it does!

1. Beckendorff
2. Solon
3. Daniel Wright
4. Winston Churchill
5. Piedmont
6. Meads Mill
7. Marie Murphy

Did you have green competition t-shirts? I think I met your coach, who I traded a bunch of small Wisconsin magnets and pins with, in trade for some pins, and some boeing postcards. She was really awesome, and shares a huge passion for aviation with me!

They were blue, but yes, I completely agree, our coach is the most polite person I have ever met! Didn't know she was into aviation though! I guess you learn something new in SO every day... :D

Yeah, She said that she worked for boeing by doing something for the slats on the 777.
