I guess that works because I wasn't being specific enough
it was cross-sectional I was thinking of

I'm not sure if that's cross-sectional. Cross-sectional studies are purely descriptive studies where a population (or a sample that is representative of the population) is surveyed for any exposures and diseases (or more realistically, a list of exposures and diseases of interest). I thought the study was case-control, because the disease status for one particular disease, the disease of the outbreak, is taken, and the entire potentially exposed/affected population is surveyed for potential exposures. While case-control studies are analytical studies, they involve a particular type of data collection, which you outlined in your problem.

Since it's been a few days since the last question,
Which disease has exerted the heaviest selective pressure on humans in the most recent part of our genetic history?

Primordial prevention is preventing a disease by addressing its risk factors. The first example that comes to mind is the anti-smoking campaign in my state to lower lung cancer rates, along with numerous other diseases.

Looking back at the stickied question marathon post and the first few pages, it looks like we don't have to hide questions, just answers.

What is an ecological study?
