To start where we left off in 2015:

If you burn a powder (mwahaha...) and its flame is somewhat purple, what can you conclude about the cation?

It has potassium, which means the powder is potassium chloride
I'm super new to this event, by the way.

Flies, specifically blow flies, flesh flies, and house flies.
