Re: Forensics C
Just showed up fresh out of Division B. Hope I can come up with something relevant. Which powders will react with HCl? With NaOH? With Benedict's solution? For the last question, describe the physical reaction of the powders that react with Benedict's solution.Magikarpmaster629 wrote:Bleh, you or someone else can go; I'm not good enough at forensics yet to ask good questions.samlan16 wrote:Correct!

Everyone, give me a day. I need to practically write an essay for this.daydreamer0023 wrote:Just showed up fresh out of Division B. Hope I can come up with something relevant. Re: Forensics C
You could just list the powders that react with benedict's; I'd like to get this question marathon going again.samlan16 wrote:Everyone, give me a day. I need to practically write an essay for this.daydreamer0023 wrote:

Yeah, that was sarcasm. Anyway,Magikarpmaster629 wrote:You could just list the powders that react with benedict's; I'd like to get this question marathon going again.samlan16 wrote:Everyone, give me a day. I need to practically write an essay for this.daydreamer0023 wrote:

Glucose- after heating for ~5 minutes, Benedict's turns red orange due to the reduction of Cu ions, which are released from copper (II) sulfate.
Sucrose- conditional of dissolving the crystals to break the bonds between each glucose and fructose, the solution turns slightly red orange. However, it does not exhibit the same color as the glucose rxn because a good majority of the disaccharides are not fully hydrolyzed. Gee, I sound like a Food Science coach. XD
Re: Forensics C
SINCE NO ONE HAS POSTED A QUESTION,
You test an unknown powder. It doesn't dissolve in water. What test would you perform next on this unknown powder in your quest to determine what it is and why?

If it is not soluble, then it could be CaSO4, CaCO3, Cornstarch, or MgSO3. These all have different pH (except for CaSO4 and cornstarch), so doing a pH test would almost certainly yield the answer.

Re: Forensics C
Since no one has posted a question, I'll do the honors. Describe the process of mass spectrometry - be sure to include how the different ions are measured and how those measurements are read. Good luck!
