Re: Electric Vehicle 2017 event info
To help clarify, here's the general idea in the draft rules (caveat as always that this is from DRAFT rules): There are 2 soup cans place near the mid point of the track (but offset to the side). The team can move one of them to make a gap of a certain width that is offset from the center line of the track. The narrower the gap, the harder it is to get a vehicle to pass through the gap successfully, and hence more bonus points are awarded.

That'll be fun to see. I wonder how the width would affect precision of turning though.windu34 wrote:Going to be lots of skinny vehicles this year

Yeah I think the interesting part will be finding a middle ground.Unome wrote:That'll be fun to see. I wonder how the width would affect precision of turning though.windu34 wrote:Going to be lots of skinny vehicles this year

Previously wasn't the conversion rate 10 cm = 1 second in points?windu34 wrote:that's the same as before....unwoundmouse wrote:Also in the draft rules it mentions 1 second being equivalent to 1 centimeter in points? Is that a mistake or are they reducing the weight of time?

Re: Electric Vehicle 2017 event info
What do you guys think will be the best method to obtain the bonus? Electronic or mechanical steering?
The way I see it, we can either fix the frame of the vehicle to turn or use a servo

Re: Electric Vehicle 2017 event info
I think both could potentially work well, but I'm more inclined to go with mechanical, since I don't feel like regular servos will be precise enough unless you design some special set up where the servos are somehow geared and dont have any force applied directly on them.windu34 wrote:What do you guys think will be the best method to obtain the bonus? I do think that mechanical would be easier to implement, but is there any benefit to electrical steering?Bazinga+ wrote:I think both could potentially work well, but I'm more inclined to go with mechanical, since I don't feel like regular servos will be precise enough unless you design some special set up where the servos are somehow geared and dont have any force applied directly on them.windu34 wrote:What do you guys think will be the best method to obtain the bonus? Re: Electric Vehicle 2017 event info
I don't quite understand the scoring for EV.
With my current vehicle's scores:
TS: 2 seconds so 2 points with new rules
DS: ~2cm so 2 points with new rules
BS: (assuming I am able to build the vehicle I plan to build and am able to achieve my goal) .2*(100-20)=16
So then 2+2-16= -12?
Am I missing something?
