Herpetology B/C

Post by Entomology »

I'll start this off with an easy one...

1) Identify the family.
2) How can this species be distinguished from similar species in the same order? Name 3 characteristics.
3) Describe the interesting way in which this species consumes prey too large to eat in one bite.
4) What are the two main ways this species moves around on land?
5) T/F: An adult can hold the jaws of this species together barehanded.

A couple mistakes but it's all good!
1) Alligatoridae
2) I haven't heard of any of these, so I'm wondering what your source is? The possible answers I have are
-U-shaped snouts
-Upper jaw is wider than its lower jaw
-Teeth in the lower jaw fit into small depressions in the upper jaw
-Absence of 4th protruding tooth
3) The answer you gave is also correct, although I was searching for the term "death roll"
4) Sprawl & High Walk
5) True. While the muscles that close the jaws are powerful, the muscles for opening the jaws are pretty weak.
