Illinois Science Olympiad T-Shirt RIPOFF!!!

Postby ChrisYim » April 16th, 2009, 3:29 pm

Ok, you might think there's nothing wrong with the Illinois Science Olympiad T-Shirt designs, but they stole our idea!!! Look at the pictures..

A lot of teams do something like that. It's not just your school.

Actually, many schools have chemical elements as their team shirt. It's quite popular.

Illinois could just have easily accused you of the same thing.
When nationals was at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2005, Illinois Science Olympiad was one of the sponsors, and its logo back then was exactly the same as you showed in designs 2 and 3.
Sorry to break it to you, but the periodic table T-shirt design is extremely common. Just look at last year's national T-shirt design. (You should feel lucky, however, that you can spell out "Franklin" without omitting any letters. Many other schools can't.)

The elements thing is probably the most over-used and basic logo design used in SciOly.
And I'm sure it wasn't started by Kennedy... ;)

Hey, what's even better, my school is Franklin as well, only we did just F H S. It's not something that someone should get credit for, the elements are there and many people have, independently, thought of the same thing so no one school or person is responsible for this.

Almost every shirt design has been done, it's really hard to come up with an original idea. We've never used it, but it seems cool! Although my old middle school team had a cartoon in the front, I would be surprised if someone else had exactly the same thing.

And by the way there's already a shirt design discussion:http://scioly.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=466. No one's posted in it in a while though.

The first SO shirt that I ever saw had the elements to spell names. Same with the 2nd.

The first one we ever had just had the team logo on the front and a lame quote on the back. Not my favorite design of all time...But every year I spent in the middle school we had our team logo somewhere.

Our "logo" was "Got Science?" It was really funny, before a event we would say " DO GOT SCIENCE, I GOT SCIENCE"!!!!!
