At the beginning of the year, we had 77 kids. By Regionals it was down to about 55- we had 5 teams at Regionals- and now that we've had Regionals, more people will drop out.

We usually have around 60 kids try out for S.O., but our coaches pick the top 25 kids.

See, we have no cuts for Regionals. People drop out voluntarily. Even for States, only maybe 5-10 of the kids who stick around don't get to go to the competition (although obviously only 15 get to actually compete, we bring like 10-20 "alternates"- who are really everything from menial labor to event coaches to people who the coaches think have potential and so decide to bring with and show what the competition is like).

We also bring other kids that didn't make the final team but were among the top 25.

At Regionals, we had so many kids that some of the other teams were making comments like "Did they bring their whole freaking school?!" Then again, we're not too popular at Regionals already.

Yeah. Just because you're really good at something doesn't mean that it makes you a jerk. What's wrong with a sincere "good luck"?

Exactly... and until this year, nobody from our team was EVER rude to other teams; our coach drilled it into our heads that we had to be above all that crap.
(Then, of course, this year some guy decided that didn't matter, and started randomly insulting other teams, making them hate us even more... and destroying our reputation among the adults in the region as being good kids.)
