1. No profanity or inappropriate language. This is a message board for a school activity that is meant for both high school and middle school students.

2. Posts should have a legitimate purpose. Users should not post two word replies, personal attacks, malicious rumors, or advertisement for a service.

3. We respect your right to disagree, but personal arguments should be conducted personally and not on a public forum.

4. Use good judgment when deciding what content to leave in and take out. As a general rule of thumb: "when in doubt, leave it out."

5. Signatures are a privilege, not a right. If people start using signatures that are too large, global restrictions will be put into effect.

6. Please keep your views on religion or the lack thereof to yourself or keep it to Private Messages.

7. Don't violate Science Olympiad Inc. copyrights: is not a place to get the rules or official rules changes and FAQs; is a place to ask questions and share ideas.

8. Failure to adhere to these rules will result in a warning and repeated misuse of the forums could result in a temporary or permanent ban.

As we begin a new season, the staff would like to remind all of our users what this website should and shouldn't be used for. is not:
  • A place to get the rules: There is one place where you can get the rules from*, and that is from your coach, who will receive a copy of the rules packet when they register your team. If your coach has not yet registered your team, but you still want to see the rules, a good way to do that would be by strongly encouraging your coach to register your team. Due to copyright restrictions, will never host copies of the official rules manual.
  • A place to get official rules clarifications and FAQs: When you do see the rules packet, you may have some questions over the wording of some of the rules. You can ask questions here, but be aware that any opinions expressed on this website are not official. Official rules clarifications and FAQs can be found on the official website, on October 15th. It would be in your best interest to not ask for rules clarifications on and instead ask for rules clarifications on Refer to this thread for more information. is:
  • A place to ask questions: You aren't going to learn anything unless you ask questions, so ask away! There are plenty of people here who would be more than happy to take the time to answer any questions you might have. In addition to the idea-related questions we've had in the past, we have also introduced a new forum this year for Question Marathons. You can use this forum as a means of practicing for events by answering original questions submitted by fellow Science Olympians. Note that not every event has a Q Marathon because some events rely extensively on outside resources (such as chemicals or measuring instruments). If you have any questions about why an event does or does not have its own Q Marathon thread, feel free to PM me.
  • A place to share ideas: There are many great resources available on this website, such as the Wiki, Test Exchange, and Image Gallery. But these resources don't grow unless people submit to them, and that's where you come in. You'll be surprised how beneficial submitting tests, images, and wiki edits for your events can be. Not only will you help other people learn more about science, you'll gain lots of knowledge and experience from it as well.
Thank you, and everyone have a great season!
