Division B Rules Manual wrote: Examples of materials that may be provided include, but are not limited to: paper cups, drinking straws, paper clips, string, tape, paper, thumbtacks, and craft sticks. Only those materials contained in the bag may be used to build the device. The bag and instructions must not be used. No other materials or adhesives may be part of the finished device.

Looks like they can give you pretty much anything that's easy to work with. I would also imagine that some competitions might give items such as toothpicks, aluminium foil, yarn, etc

Does a room for Mystery Architecture require desks at all? i.e. can it be done in a classroom with desks removed?

Anyone have good information about structural design for different for buildings or architectural design? i.e. Cantilevers, arches, pyramids, columns, stuff like that.

If you want to develop good intuitive sense for structural engineering the Truss Me app is very helpful.

http://www.scientificmonkey.com/software.html

You can get it from the Google Play Store for free or from the Apple App Store for $1.99. Unfortunately, there is not yet a version for PC or Mac.

Let me guess ... were marshmallows involved? Spaghetti marshmallow towers are super popular

I know cantilevers are only for State and Nationals but want to get some experience with them as well - does anybody have guidance on how an event with cantilevers will be run. Will they typically provide a base as a fulcrum? Can the cantilever be secured to the fulcrum? Any sample events available?

Thanks.
