1) Difference between Kelvin and Celsius?
2) Why could volcanic eruptions cause global cooling? Include the Mount Tambora case to support your answer.
3) What does the Thornthwaite classification system measure?
4) The image shown above reveals what kind of cloud(s)? Yes, this is the infamous windows background. :geek:
Kelvin is based off absolute 0, whereas Celsius is based off the melting point of ice and boiling point of water

Volcanic eruptions cause global cooling due to it's sulfur emissions. The sulfur dioxide mixes with water vapor and hydroxide to create aerosols that stay in the atmosphere for years and scatter solar radiation, thus lowering the amount of radiation the earth absorbs. Mount Tambora released so much Sulfur Dioxide that the earth cooled 0.4C-0.7C and a summer did not occur

The Thornthwaite classification system classifies by vegetation characteristic and precipitation. (Precipitation/Evaporation or P/E)

Cirrus, altocumulus, and cumulus? hehe
Yup! Your turn!

What is the exact eccentricity of a circular orbit?

How does a hole in the ozone affect climate?

What is the relationship between El Nino, La Nina, and North Atlantic Hurricanes?

Describe what happens in an inversion layer.

If air temperature at 2000 meters elevation is -20C, estimate the temperature at 5000 meters elevation.

Describe the difference between Koppen classifications BWh and BSk.

Not 100% sure about these, but I did my best:

The exact eccentricity of a circular orbit is 0.
The ozone layer absorbs ultraviolet radiation, so the hole in the ozone layer lets in ultraviolet radiation and leads to warming.
El Niño causes less hurricanes in the Atlantic, and La Nina causes more.
In an inversion layer, the temperature increases with height instead of decreases.
The temperature at 5000 meters should be -38 C?(not too sure about that one).
BSk is dry-cool with a dry season in summer, and BWh is dry-hot with a dry season in winter.

Hey! I remember you from the 2017 nationals! You're one of those shady kids right?

Also, you got #2 and #4 incorrect.

The ozone layer actually does not impact climate at all. It neither warms nor cools the atmosphere.

#4 as you lose an average of 3.5°C per 1000 ft, the actual temperature should be 30.5°C at 5000 ft.

Your turn!

Thanks for the corrections! I think i was thinking meters instead of feet for #4. Also, how'd you know where I'm from? Did we meet? (Yes, I'm one of those shady kids).

Yeah, no problem. Anything to help a fellow meteorology national competitor in this cancerous topic (climate... sheesh). Remembering the Dodgen and Mesa-Robles invitationals gives me shudders.

Heh, I know you from Meteorology at nats... I keep tabs on all my future "victims" (people I aim to beat next time at Nats hehe), and with a 7th in meteorology you're quite high on that list. I remember looking at you at the Medical Sciences Building in room 125... hehe.. Good times.

I remember you, you don't remember me.. pretty shady huh? ;)

I haven't seen the rules for this event, but, as is the case with most events, the rules usually say you can put any information from any source on your cheat sheet. So yes, pictures and diagrams should be allowed (unless I'm mistaken).

EDIT: Just realized this was in Question Marathons.
"Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you." Matthew 5:11-12

I have no regrets.
