Illinois 2018

Postby Skink » September 5th, 2017, 4:52 am

Welcome to the 2018 season! Post here to discuss ISO.

Tournament dates are available on the state web page and will be copied here at my convenience. Excitingly, there are more December invitationals this season.

There's never a set date, but I'd expect them within the next week or two.

Yeah, I don't like that, when there are two events that are scheduled at the same time.

Hype post reminder that this Saturday is the Palatine Invitational with New Trier, Stevenson, Hinsdale, Munster, and a lot of other schools from Illinois. :D Considering last year NT got 9th and 10th with Stevenson sweeping 1st and 2nd, the results will definitely be fun :)

Palatine results:

1. Stevenson (93)
2. Stevenson (149)
3. Munster (259)
4. Munster (277)
5. New Trier (292)
6. Neuqua Valley (320)
7. Hinsdale Central (321)
8. Waubonsie Valley (363)
9. Lyons Township (380)
10. New Trier (423)

Stevenson did very well, though it's hard to say exactly how well. They had a few very weak areas (notably, WIDI and Forensics), and it's early enough that other teams could catch up.

Harlem Invitational:

1. Crystal Lake Central (121)
2. University of Chicago Laboratory (169)
3. Waubonsie Valley (190)
4. Harlem (243)
5. Rockford Christian (258)
6. Lake Central (252)
7. Huntley (286)
8. Willowbrook (311)
9. University of Chicago Laboratory (331)
10. Crystal Lake Central (343)

I recognize Crystal Lake Central as being a state contender, but I don't know anyone else; someone from Illinois will have to analyze.

Based off of Palatine, looks like a strong showing. Funnily enough, it seems they did better than we did at conant. The next big illinois invitational is 12/28 at crystal lake central, and that will foreshadow states as a whole a lot more than any other tournament of the year. Solon may also reveal if we can actually compete with Stevenson for the state title this year [Daniel Wright national champion class could be looking to write their names into the history of division C].

This was a surprisingly strong showing by Lab; placing second and beating out Waubonsie Valley?!? That's really surprising given Waubonsie's typically berth at the upper echelon of High School teams and Lab's typical showing. They seem to be much improved this year. Also, though this is my fourth year competing in Illinois C, I've never heard of Lake Central as a contender in the State (and certainly not beating Waubonsie). Did they come out of nowhere, or am I just misremembering prior State competitions?

Stevenson won. I do not have the full results, but the superscores were 58 and 87 for them and us respectively. Their lowest, when super scored) was 13th in Fermi and our lowest was 24th in Heli. They got 11 firsts, which is really impressive, and we got 7.

Hopefully the full results are out soon.
