We had a last minute adjustment to our team and I'm now building the helicopter. It's too late for us to get a kit, can anyone point me to some basic balsa wood models/plans?

Melisa,

There is a previous post of the plan for the River City Rocket Heli. This design is from an older rules set, but can be modified for 2018.

Jeff Anderson also has previously posted a sample " build to weight" strategy based mostly upon use of particular weight and density balsa wood for various components. Build to the 3 gram minimum and wind the rubber to maximum turns (see previous posts for how to do this) for best flight times.

Does the 2.5 multiplier also apply to the 5% bonus for winding under 3 minutes?

If your flight time with a chinook is 100 seconds, will the bonus be 5% of 250 OR 5% of 100 seconds for winding under 3 minutes?

Both. If T is your time, your score would be 1.05*2.50*T.

According to the official scoresheet, if you enter a time of 1:40, enter a Chinook bonus and a 3-minute bonus, but no other bonus (no colored panel), the score is 255. Therefore, the bonuses each apply to the RAW flight score, not cumulatively. That is consistent with the way I read the rules as well. Using the formula posted by Antione, the score would have been 262.5.

It makes sense, as why should the value of the 3-minute bonus (winding) be increased because of a build feature.

This is also consistent with bonuses from prior years.

Okay, I thought so too, but thought I'd doublecheck. Thanks!

I can help. Also have a last years kit that is a 20 cm rotor and this year is 30 cm allowed, so it will take some modification.
I sent you a PM please reply.
