Use a spool and a motor triggered by a switch.Unome wrote:It's an interesting idea. However, it would also be a little harder to implement due to the difficulty of pulling on it, whereas with a regular pulley you just drop an object 70 cm to pull the weight up 10 cm.raxu wrote:There is a pulley system I remember from Compound Machines that use few pulleys to get an arbitrarily high IMA: Differential Pulley. I did a description in the scioly wiki Compound Machine page.
There are a few drawbacks though: it is harder to build, requiring the wheel and axle-like structure. Additionally, the supervisor may not familiar with the setup and does not see how it can have IMA>=7. The benefit is the low number of pulleys used!
Edit: Nevermind, that's not possible. The dropped object would definitely have to roll down a ramp or something, since the device's maximum height is 60 cm.

Re: High IMA Pulley Task
Would using 2 pulleys chained together by a timing belt or something similar be allowed, and would it count towards the mechanical advantage? For example, something like this? http://www.designatronics.com/images/ce ... stance.jpg
i'll work on my events eventually

Re: High IMA Pulley Task
I don't know much about IMA of gears but the design you sent wouldn't, IMO, count towards the pulleys. If you have the same set up as you sent but with the timing belt not in a closed loop so that you could pull on the end and have it act as a standard pulley system then it would count.ftf841 wrote:Would using 2 pulleys chained together by a timing belt or something similar be allowed, and would it count towards the mechanical advantage? Nonetheless an interesting idea and I'm curious to see what others would think.

Re: High IMA Pulley Task
Springs are allowed as long as they don't exceed 10 seconds right?
Couldn't we just use a constant force spring that is held in a state of high potential energy, and when he magnet is released, it coils up, turning a wheel, which winds up the string?
Also, if this works, will the wheel and axle IMA be included in the IMA of the pulley?

Re: High IMA Pulley Task
That does appear to have an IMA of 7, yes.tinyperson wrote:https://www.amazon.com/Generic-Pulley-B ... ds=pulleys
Would something like this work?

I'm using a 3D printed block and tackle similar to that...

I had asked this earlier, but it sort of got smothered, so I'll ask again:

I'd imagine typed would be preferable. But I think you'd be okay either way as long as the format (not released yet to my knowledge) is correct.aniSUKSatCHEM wrote:Can the ASL be typed? Or does it have to be handwritten?
