Triggering the traps
All,
I ask this question somewhat sheepishly ... if you use two traps is it permissable to lock both traps and trigger both (one at time) with the pencil to get the device started or does one have to be already released held back by the first ... eg: you are allowly allowed to have one trigger?
Thanks...

Re: Triggering the traps
Why would you trigger one at a time??? That gives no advantage. You are, however, allowed to trigger both at the same time since the motion is still perpendicular.YeagerTheCat wrote:All,

Re: Triggering the traps
We don't especially want to trigger them separately other than they are separate traps and we get a little more out of the traps if both are locked down. If we have to use a pencil vertically it requires two hits, if you can lay the pencil across them of course that works but don't think that is legal

Re: Triggering the traps
Try to connect the two mousetraps to lock them together. This way you can press a pencil down vertically on the piece connecting the two and they both start at the same time.YeagerTheCat wrote:We don't especially want to trigger them separately other than they are separate traps and we get a little more out of the traps if both are locked down. Re: Triggering the traps
You can also set just one of them if you're using a single arm system and use that as the trigger.YeagerTheCat wrote:We don't especially want to trigger them separately other than they are separate traps and we get a little more out of the traps if both are locked down. Re: Triggering the traps
setting it that way allows for less string to be wrapped around the axle which is what they're trying to avoid.antoine_ego wrote:You can also set just one of them if you're using a single arm system and use that as the trigger.YeagerTheCat wrote:We don't especially want to trigger them separately other than they are separate traps and we get a little more out of the traps if both are locked down. Re: Triggering the traps
This can be minimized by using whichever trap has the front part of its torsion spring on the edge of the traps. The amount of string lost is pretty small.4Head wrote:setting it that way allows for less string to be wrapped around the axle which is what they're trying to avoid.antoine_ego wrote:You can also set just one of them if you're using a single arm system and use that as the trigger.YeagerTheCat wrote:We don't especially want to trigger them separately other than they are separate traps and we get a little more out of the traps if both are locked down. Re: Triggering the traps
Usually in my experience it's better to only activate one, having the arms attached together and only one set. Since there's no possible way that you can set off both at the same time, what can potentially happen is that one mousetrap gets set off before the other, the sudden jolt as the slack is taken up might shift the car's positioning, and you may lose accuracy, especially if your car is light.
