Strike is the bearing/azimuth where a layer is at the same elevation along the whole line. Dip is the angle that the layer dips down from the horizontal.

Trend is the bearing/azimuth that a lineation plunges down on. Plunge is the angle that the lineation plunges down from the horizontal.

Heave is a fault's relative motion horizontally. Throw is how much it moves vertically.

Rake is the angle between a lineation and the strike of the plane it is on. Plunge is the same as before.

The Hawaiian islands were formed by the island passing over a hotspot, while the Japanese islands were caused by the subduction of many plates. The islands are called island arc chains
