it's not about the medals; go out there and have fun. make progress, learn a few things and have one heck of a time; that's all that matters.

So, "real" room is just under 40' to the lights. Not bad.

This will present challenges to many that do not have such a facility to test in. Half rubber will rule. Don't know what the glider kids will do though!

Time management will become critical, as the flights may be lengthy in this room.

Small circle, despite the room size, may be important to avoid the nets.

Well, time to get testing! We are fortunate to be going to the AMA competition at Round Valley in two weeks. 100' ceiling! All of my WS kids (4) built Limited Penny Planes, should be fun. I Think we'll plan on doing some WS and Glider testing as well.

Anyone who has opportunity to fly in an AMA contest, do it. Most contests are free entry for kids 18 and under. Josh Finn just came out with a Limited Penny Plane kit which should be competitive, and is no harder to build than WS planes. Think larger wing, but 3.1g! All of our planes came out between 3.1 and 3.2g.

Reading the air and carefully considering launch point are going to be important!!
But if you do that intelligently, that should be a very good place to fly. 3:30+ to win?

I'd say 3:30+ to place. Winner will probably break 4:00, maybe even 4:20 if conditions are ideal based purely off of ceiling height. However, with air currents from people walking around, the challenge of flying in a new environment, all that stuff... hard to say.

I honestly think you will need 3:50 to place but I can be wrong.

I think people are overestimating. 3:00 to 3:15 to place, winner will probably be somewhere between 3:30 and 4:00. Might go over 4:00 if they're very good and lucky. Teams almost never do as well at Nationals as people predict.

The room looks great! Love the high ceiling.
