Game On B: This event will determine a team's ability to design and build an original computer game using the program Scratch incorporating the scientific theme provided to them by the supervisor.

How do you guys practice Game On? Do you just make lots of games.

Ok so Game On actually uses quite a bit of planing before the event - typically people figure out a template game of sorts beforehand that ticks the boxes on the rubric, so knowing both the game and rubric is a must. At the start of the event one person sets up the game (create and make blank sprites, backdrops, the simpler costumes, etc.) while the other person plans out how the theme is going to fit into the game and what it's going to look like. Practice with your partner who's going to do what and how to make your game so you aren't winging it (like we did our first competition).
Also knowing how to use Scratch is pretty much a given, so PRACTICE

I don't think it's super beneficial to make a complete game every single time you practice. My partner and I preferred practicing individually on our parts and revising our code separately and then doing a complete game once every two weeks to see what is new.

Is there a way for you to have pre-made sprites at the event. Because last year at states I think they allowed it but I did not know. if you're allowed to then how can you get them at the competition.

For folks who have participated before, what in your experience is considered to be a valid "Scientific Concept" ? The rubrics allow for 4 such concepts, with 3 points per concept for a total of 12.

In your experience which of these constitute a valid concept?

1. The user accelerates, so acceleration
2. If the autonomous sprite accelerates, would it be considered another concept or is it covered in 1 ?
3. If the user always walks on ground, can we claim 'gravity', especially if it jumps and lands back down ?
4. Speaking of the above, is 'jump' a scientific concept?
5. If the sprite shoots missile, is 'shooting' a concept?

6. In your experience what counts and what does not?
