How do you mean? How would you implement the pulley?

If a pully system is making the threaded rod rotate, then no, these would be parallel.

If the wingnut for example knocks something into a pully system after it has traveled 2 cm, then that would be ok.

can i use this with the pully?

If a pully system is making the threaded rod rotate, then no, these would be parallel.

If the wingnut for example knocks something into a pully system after it has traveled 2 cm, then that would be ok.
If you use a pulley for the wingnut but dont count it as one of the actions i think it should be fine.

I'm having trouble moving the wingnut far enough. I have a string wrapped around the screw with a weight attached. When I let the weight go, it rotates the screw and the wingnut moves along, but it only makes it about 1cm before the weight hits bottom.

Try attaching a big wheel to one end of your screw and wrap the string around that.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, a big wheel on the end makes it worse. The wheel turns quickly but the screw in the center turns more slowly.

In order to minimize the weight drop, you need to attach a shaft on the end that is smaller than the screw, which is really tough. Or you could also set up a pulley system with an IMA less than 1.

I ended up using a pulley with IMA of 2 to get enough distance. More complexity, but it works.
