Device Equilibrium

Post by Gogo2015 »

Hi, I am having trouble with my static equilibrium. I have added counterweights, and when I modify the counterweight, it only stays in static equilibrium at one distance. For example, if my counterweight is allowing my device to be in static equilibrium when the hooks are at distance 50 when I move it to 25, it moves out of static equilibrium. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I believe this is because your hooks have mass. Edit: Looking at it again, I'm not sure anymore Editp2: Try writing out the equations, I don't think it works out with a counterweight if you move the hooks.

The mass of the hooks may be affecting equilibrium, as said above. It did for us.

I agree with this. To negate this, I just hang my masses directly onto the lever arm

How are u doing this with a compound machine? Am I just missing something obvious...

One of my masses is fixed and i just move the other along the lever arm
