Reach for the Stars B

Post by Havocgamer49 »

Didn't see a Reach for the Stars forum out there so I thought I'd get one started.

Think we should start of a bit easy.

Use the image above to answer the questions

1. Who made this diagram? (first and last name)

2. This diagram is more commonly known as the __________ ____ diagram.

3. Name the galaxy type shown at SO

4. What is the difference between the S#'s (Sa, Sb, Sc) and the SB#'s (SBa, SBb, SBc)?

5. There is another type of galaxy not depicted on this particular diagram, please name this type of galaxy.

Ya got them all right except 3, which is in fact "Lenticular Galaxies" which are a hybrid between elliptical and spiral galaxies.

For number 2 Hubble Sequence works, but another answer they might want would be "Tuning Fork"

Your turn to ask.

rip :(

1. how is vega viewed from earth?
2. what affect does its rotation have?
3. how will precession affect it?
4. what type of variable is it?

Don't really know, with a telescope? If you're talking about location, then I guess I can infer from the fact that it's in the summer triangle that it can be seen in the Northern Hemisphere during the Summer.
Vega's fast rotation makes it bulge at its equator.
It will become the star closest to the North Celestial Pole, idk in how long though.

Well, looks like we have 2 of the same events!

It's time for some math...

1. What is the maximum wavelength emitted by a blackbody with a temperature of 4000 K?

2. RR Lyrae stars have approximately the same absolute magnitude of +0.5 and are common in globular clusters. An RR Lyrae star in one globular cluster has an apparent magnitude of 16.5. What is the distance to the cluster in light years?

3. How long does it take light to travel to us from an object with a parallax of 0.042 arcseconds?

I'll accept rounded answers.
