Tentative Conflicts :{

Post by Ashernoel »

I don't know how tentative the conflict schedule is, but Astro conflicting with Microbe Mission in Division C is really sad because they both are similar events that people do in conjunction with each other.

Astro is an event where there is a heavy emphasis on DSO preparation on top of main concepts and math related to astrophysics.

Microbe is an event where there is a heavy emphasis on the disease list preparation on top of the main concepts and a little math related to microbial growth, dilution, and microscopes.

Putting these two events in the same time block seems to me like putting Herpetology and Rocks and Minerals or EXPD and WIDI together.

Of course, though, these are just my two cents upon seeing my two favorite events put in the same time slot. IDK if a post like this is allowed here, but maybe it can spark a discussion on conflicts for the future.

I'm just surprised (and sad) that Rocks and Dynamic conflict. They are both geology focused this year so in my opinion that conflict was poorly thought out. It's would be like scheduling Anatomy and Microbe at the same time.

Yeah, the schedule is a little unusual (though, better than 2016 when it was all alphabetically staggered...). Fermi being during impound is especially surprising.

Astro with Microbe is annoying, as is Mat Sci with Thermo.

So you know how people try to keep schedules constant? I live in NY and we had fermi and herpetology as trial events. so do you think competition coordinators will switch herpetology with invasives and fermi with hydrogeology? or Some other events?

I doubt those will be the trial events. I'd expect some combination of national events not currently in rotation and up and coming trial events. Invasives is almost certainly not going to be a trial event (imo). Hydrogeology is possible, but I think unlikely.

Im typically a lurker in the forums but I can't believe they put dyplan and rocks in the same time slot. They're both geology/earth science..... I've been doing purely earth science events so this is really annoying. Im curious though, why would they put dyplan and rocks together?

I think some event conflicts are a good thing. It keeps students from developing a comfort zone and pushes them to try new events which they may end up liking.
