Communication Channels (Slack, Trello, Basecamp)

Post by eagerlearner102 » February 12th, 2020, 7:41 pm

Hi there,
I was wondering that what online communication programs do your teams use asides from email. In my school, Slack is used for robotics and speech & debate, but I don't know how helpful it is for Science Olympiad. I don't want to create more spam from these software services. I was thinking of other services that make people upload their cheat sheets, binders onto the website so I can know their progress, but I don't know if that is necessary.
Do any of you guys use Slack, Trello, or Basecamp? Which ones would you recommend? If you use other types of communication methods, please tell me!
2020 events: Protein Modeling, Ping Pong Parachute, Designer Genes
2019 events: Protein Modeling, Sounds of Music, Fermi Questions
I failed 2020. Hope I will do better in 2021.

Discord/ Snapchat. Most people have that so it's convenient. If your school runs on a google centered program, then google hangout is not a bad idea. Anything that you can make a group chat in.

We use slack and have a shared team google drive folder. What we like about slack is the different channels so each chat can be focused on a specific topic or event.

When I competed, we used GroupMe (they still do I think).

My team has used GroupMe for a while, but we're in the process of switching to a Discord server (my idea). GroupMe is perfectly fine ig, but discord has more versatility with roles and organization of channels for each event. Iirc Slack has similar features, but I'm pretty sure that it is inferior to Discord in the roles category and the fact that some features on Slack are paid.

We use Facebook Messenger for communicating with partners, GroupMe for competition-day updates, regular email for announcements, and a shared Google Drive for resources.
