Yep. You could say that for many of the events that are "unfair" - like the ID events, which are usually paired together anyways. At the least they do try to keep the mechanicals different.

OH BOY SOMEONE ASKED A PROTEIN QUESTION

Well, first of all, there are threads here and here that have lots of great information. Also, the Center for Biomolecular Modeling, who sponsored the event before and probably will again, have information on their site about getting familiarized with modeling, and other pertinent info: http://cbm.msoe.edu/scienceOlympiad/index.php

Good luck! I found Protein Modeling a really interesting event to do, even though I was usually more of an earth science/physics guy.

Yep, Solar System! I was only grading, but from what I saw it seemed to be a pretty good test. Got a nice range of scores too! You guys did pretty well, so good luck at nationals, and maybe you can bring home a medal! :)

Next year's events (projected, but rarely do things change after this version) as of March 2014 are:
REDACTED

Basically, the guesses before are correct.

SO HAPPY to see Protein Modeling and Trajectory back on the list!!! (Blast back to the 2009-2010 season for me, that is)
is this accurate?
also, what is the green generation?

Probably, given that last year's preliminary events looked to be in the same format.
Google it.
