Pre-Competition Stress Moments
Anyone here have any funny things they did before a competition because they were really stressed out?

Re: Pre-Competition Stress Moments
Before the Wright state invitational last gear, I was overly nervous about the tournament. It was my first competition, and my team didn't care about anyone meddling. On the way up, I felt sick. I didn't know why, but I was. We stopped at a Bob a Jones, and there, suddenly, I had to go to the bathroom and throw up. The next day, ironically, I got 3rd in my fist event ever, Invasive
species. We only placed in one other event.

Re: Pre-Competition Stress Moments
This happened after my 4 events were over, so I guess it was not really stress-related, but nevertheless it was pretty stupid. It was pouring rain during regionals, and I was really bored so I started jumping over puddles. I spotted a huge puddle, and I ran up to jump over it. Immediately after clearing the puddle, I had to brake myself because there were people in front of me. Unfortunately, I slipped on the wet surface and landed hard on my butt. My teacher came over and asked if I needed to be carried (which would be impossible), but I was okay because I was pretty used to walking around with injuries, being a club soccer player who has played in several intense games.
Sine functions are quite odd, to be honest.

Re: Pre-Competition Stress Moments
All I have is a bad tendency to break into tears after finishing my events (or in some cases, during the Sounds performance) only to find out I did rather well... It's weird. Being an alternate this year is much, much less stressful than being on the State/National team.

Re: Pre-Competition Stress Moments
Since I tend to get nervous over everything, this year, my first year doing SciOly, was definitely extremely stressful for me. The week before the competitions I crammed everything I could, edited cheat sheets, and my parents started to get worried because they didn't think I was eating as much as I usually did. I was kind of freaking out because I was sure that we would fail miserably(we didn't, thank god). During the actual tests themselves I wasn't that stressed(I watched my friend do Helicopters and I was more stressed even though I'm not even on that event than I was during my Ento test), but before and during the Awards Ceremonies I was a complete mess. My team was really nice about it though. They're awesome people. I also had to go up for the little impromptu Science Bowl before the awards actually started at Regionals, and that one was awful. We won, but I didn't really do anything, it was mostly the other person. Still, every time I think of it, my stomach feels really sick and I want to forget it. That one's not really pre-competition but still one of the most stressful SciOly related moments for me. Afterwards, after remembering all my competitions so far, I think they were actually pretty fun. I was too busy stressing out to enjoy them at that moment though.

Re: Pre-Competition Stress Moments
Yes...so two days before States, I was trying to figure out what to do with that annoying 1/2 cm x 1/2 cm blank spot on our notes for Meteorology. (I write my notes in size 2-3 font, so every page is jam-packed with information. Also, I end up going right up to the 'printable' margins, and then add handwritten stuff for the borders). Anyway, I had this spot left that was annoying me, so I added a little text box and typed (in size 2 font):
Team name: Pilgrimage Homeschool
Team initials: pH
Team acronym: -log[H3O(+)]
Team partners: [Partner 1], [Partner 2]
Team nicknames: [Partner 1]: Microburst, [Partner 2]: Macroburst
I know, it was really bad.
So, then I had to print out these notes. Our printer is black and white, and wouldn't print out quite as far as I wanted it to, so we went to a staples and got the lady there to print out the notes on their huge, multi-thousand dollar printers--on good paper. The first page had 25,000 words on one side, all in size two font, with no pictures, and the second side of the first page had well over 15,000 words, with ~10 pictures. The second page was even better... I shall forever remember the look on her face (and my Dad's face)...

Just a question. How the heck can you read size two font?! I use 6.5, and that may be too big I guess .

Re: Pre-Competition Stress Moments
It's actually not as bad as you'd think. If you set something to size 2 you may at first be discouraged, because on a computer you are unable to read it. However, once you print it out you'll find it readable, if you bring you're eye up close to it. I personally prefer size 4, though.

Re: Pre-Competition Stress Moments
It seems like (at least at my State competition), that people were really really nervous before their first event, but the nerves went away after they went to a first test (assuming it went considerably well).

Re: Pre-Competition Stress Moments
I had my state competition yesterday, and thankfully I did well in all of my events, but I was pretty stressed and didn't eat anything for the entire day as a result.
