Disclaimer: This may just be in my state.
So. I have often wondered this after competitions, but I never thought to ask here about it. The first page of all tests at my Regional and State competition is a little mini survey. It asks for name, ethnicity, gender, and grade. I assume that it is for some study or something. Does anyone know specifically what it is for? Does your state have this as well?

IIRC Georgia has teams submit a form with that info before Regionals and State.

Washington doesn't do this. The only information we need to submit with our roster is the grade of each member and their signatures

The reason this information is collected in Illinois is that ISO is required to submit this kind of demographic data to apply for many kinds of grants.

We don't do this in New York, as far as I know.
