I do biology olympiad. I specialize in anatomy and physiology, even though I'm better at botany.
I mostly read and reread Campbell biology, sometimes taking notes, usually not. I memorize everything at least once so that it's much easier to recall when reviewing or while testing. I space out past tests to test my progress every so often. Lol that's basically it.

Hi,

Just wondering, but did you make camp last year?

Thanks,

I did Science Bowl for one year but I didn't study to any significant degree which might explain how we didn't do well! But in all seriousness, I specialized in earth science, same as I mostly due for scioly, and since there's such a wide variety of questions which can come up, I just tried to read as many textbooks or glossaries as possible because I never knew what would actually be useful. But I never did Science Bowl again after that first year so maybe I had the wrong strategy...

Wow!! I have campbell biology too, and am in the process of taking notes for it. But how else do you study? Any particular resources?

I honestly didn't do much else to study. The important part is dedicating a large amount of time to learning the info. I did 1 hour a day during the school year, 3-4 hours a day during break.

What I used for USABO:
Campbell Biology
Raven's Biology of Plants
Biotechnology chapter of Albert's Cell Biology

I got really far with only those books, there are some optional reading material as well:
Lehninger's Principles of Biochemistry (There's an advanced and simple version, this is the simple one)
Albert's Cell Biology
Vander's Anatomy and Physiology
Klug Concepts of Genetics
Board Review Series
Miller Zoology

Honestly though, that book is pretty good for biochem nerds, and Alberts, from what I can tell, is pretty decent. Campbell, of course, is a must.

Pretty much the physics guy for my team. High school level texts are honestly pretty good for my portion.

Learn extra when relevant.

Though I do help out with all parts even though I do not specialize just for fun.
