As a Mets fan, I must applaud the Phillies for what is seemingly a steal of Cliff Lee. He's a great starter (not quite "brilliant" like last year, but so be it) who didn't get run support in Cleveland. It would appear that the offense-heavy Phils should now give him the wins he's been sorely deprived of with the Indians.
Also as a Mets fan, I think it's pretty safe to say that any pitching upgrade was going to take the Phils from "default winners of a pretty lame NL East" to "crushing the NL East and leaving them totally behind." Really, unless Delgado, Reyes and Beltran all magically come back in the next week without any lingering problems from injury, it's pretty tough for me to see the Mets pass the Braves, much less the Phillies.
For that matter, there's essentially no chance for them in the Wild Card race at this point. For a team that looked so good at the start, this is a pretty sorry end. Wright, Santana and K-Rod can't carry the team all the time. Francoeur has been a miny-boost, but I don't see the team keeping up this pace for very long.
