Post by zyzzyva980 » June 10th, 2010, 6:38 pm

In just over twelve hours the first match will kick off. Who's excited?

A better question, though perhaps cliched, who's not excited?

But seriously, this is a great year for Africa, and im sure this will be a marvelous World Cup.

And although we all know the chances are slimmer than a piece of paper, USA!! USA!!!!!!!!!!!

But if i were placing bets, Germany's where its at.

Argentina and Spain are where it's at (excluding the obviously Brazil)

And as for the first match, that was a SICK goal for South Africa. 80 degrees top left (from the goalie's point of view) is just sick. It nicked the inside corner of the metal and in. Although it WAS heavily luck-based...

South Africa kept the streak of unbeaten first games alive for host countries. Do they have a chance to continue the streak of advancing to the knockout rounds? Group A basically remains as is due to all countries tying today, so South Africa is one step closer to not being eliminated.

Yes, South Africa honestly squandered numerous opportunities at goal though...they could have certainly won 2-0 or 2-1, o well...

Nice defense by Uruguay, France played a frustrating game through and through...and as for Thierry Henry, come on man, you know what a hand ball looks like.

I found the South Africa match very ironic, because before the match, if you had told South Africa that they'd get a point, I think they'd have been pleased. But looking back at the actual game, they should feel sad that they didn't win 2 or 3-0 (The goal that they allowed was also terrible.)

Well, they can certainly beat Uruguay in their next game, and if Mexico simultaneously tie or lose to France, they'll be in with a really good shot in their last game against France.

Never say certainly. I was counting on Mexico and France both winning with a clean margin...but look at what happened. Next thing you know, USA will be thrashing England.
