I haven't had to memorize the periodic table yet but memorizing the symbols for each element is pretty useful
yeah but like the bonds and groups and valence electrons and all that stuff??
Ok I agree with you on that; asking people to memorize that type of info is definitely going too far
And please don't tell me you literally mean memorizing that info for "all" the elements... since memorizing the valence electrons of Nihonium is even more utterly pointless

physics is like the infinite jest of science. most people don’t care to read beyond the first chapter, it’s far too complicated and long, and if you understand it you’ve probably ascended beyond this astral plane.

I don't think it's very common practice for students to memorize it, but rather, people get used to seeing it, and they remember things that way.

Because I know for certain that you're not joking about this, I'd highly recommend Sam Kean's The Disappearing Spoon. Chemistry isn't my forte but it's a really good read, especially for people who don't want to go into chemistry :)

The Disappearing Spoon is seriously one of my favorite nonfiction books, I would lend anyone who wants to read it my copy but there are some geographical complications ]:)

OMG YESSSSSSSS it's such a good book!! There are lots of good science books that cater to a general audience, but honestly The Disappearing Spoon takes the cake for most interesting and down to Earth
