The thing that bothers me about stuff like that is, if they have all this extra rice floating around that they can donate, why are they waiting for me to answer trivia questions before they let starving people eat it?

Why don't they just give it to the people and not make me feel like I'm the sole decider of whether someone's gonna eat or starve today based on how many questions I get right?
If Freerice has the rice to give, why not give it all away right now?

Freerice is not sitting on a pile of rice. You and other Freerice players earn it 10 grains at a time. Here is how it works: when you play the game, sponsor banners appear on the bottom of your screen for every correct answer that you choose. The money generated by these banners is then used to buy the rice. So by playing, you generate the money that pays for the rice donated to hungry people.
Ah, I see. Well, that answer satisfies me.

For freepoverty.com, can't you just use a map of the world and cheat?

No, because it has a very short time limit. It's even easier to cheat on freerice, because you can google the words.
